These convenient new services are designed to make it easier for people with concerns in these areas to get specialist support through AXA health insurance, without needing to attend an initial appointment in person.
Specialist online support
AXA Health already offers digital outpatient services, covering digestive health, dermatology, and muscles, bones and joints. It says these areas account for a significant proportion of its claims.
The insurer has now added cardiology, urology and neurology, which are three further areas where people may need specialist assessment and guidance.
After receiving a referral from their GP, eligible adults can access an online assessment that is reviewed by a qualified consultant. AXA Health says the aim is to provide guidance within three working days.
The services are being delivered by HBSUK, an online outpatient provider that is part of the AXA Group.
Making it easier to access specialist care
For someone facing a new health concern, knowing what happens next can be one of the most difficult parts. Online specialist services can offer a convenient way to get expert guidance without having to wait for an initial face-to-face consultation.
Heather Smith, chief executive of AXA Health, said the expansion was about improving access to specialist support while making sure members feel supported throughout their healthcare journey:
“By expanding our online outpatient services, we are expanding access to high-demand specialties and making coordinated, specialist support available to our members when they need it most.”
She added that the insurer's existing digital services for digestive health and dermatology had been successful, prompting their expansion into neurology, cardiology and urology.
What does this mean if you're considering health insurance?
Digital healthcare has become an important part of private health insurance. Services such as online specialist assessments can make it easier to access expert support. They offer greater flexibility and convenience when it comes to booking appointments.
However, the exact services available will depend on the policy you choose. Different insurers offer different levels of outpatient cover, digital services, hospital lists and other benefits, so it's worth looking at the overall package rather than simply comparing premiums.
If you're considering private health insurance, our friendly, impartial advisers can help you compare plans from AXA and other leading UK insurers, explaining what's included and helping you find cover that suits your needs and budget.
