Vitality health insurance gives you a solid base of private care while letting you tailor your plan with extras to suit your life and budget.
Standard cover includes private hospital treatment for day visits and overnight stays, comprehensive cancer care, and diagnostic tests such as scans and blood tests.
You also get self‑referred physiotherapy through the Priority Physio network, mental health support with up to eight talking therapy sessions, and access to a GP by video appointment, often within just a couple of days.
Wellbeing features are included too, such as active rewards to encourage healthy habits, and menopause support for women.
You can shape your plan in a few ways. Choose which hospital list or consultant panel you prefer, and add other people to your plan, like a partner or children.
Optional extras let you customise your cover further, usually adding to your monthly premium. These include dental, optical and hearing cover, extended mental health support, therapies such as chiropractic or osteopathy, and worldwide travel insurance. You can also adjust your excess to balance the level of protection with what you want to pay.

These are the benefits you get as standard with Vitality’s health insurance package. It covers essentials like tests and diagnostics, inpatient treatment, cancer care and key wellbeing services, giving you solid protection from day one.
You can enhance your base policy with add-ons for mental health services, therapies, extended hospital lists and other extras.

Vitality goes beyond standard treatment to help you stay healthy and supported in everyday life. Your policy includes a range of wellbeing services designed to make looking after your health easier:
Access up to eight talking therapy sessions each plan year, including CBT and counselling. You can self-refer or use a GP referral, and choose online or face-to-face sessions with approved providers.
A 12-month Headspace subscription is included, with guided programmes for mood and anxiety, music and meditations, sleep stories and relaxing yoga sessions.
Vitality gives you access to the Peppy app, offering personalised, app-based guidance, one-to-one video consultations with practitioners, peer support and trusted resources.
Get rewarded for staying active. Track steps, workouts, or gym visits via the Vitality app to earn points that can be exchanged for vouchers, cinema tickets, and more. Your activity also helps boost your Vitality Status, which can lower premiums and give extra perks.
These services are all part of your policy, helping you stay on top of your health and wellbeing alongside private treatment.
Like most UK health insurance policies, Vitality focuses on acute and curable conditions rather than chronic or long-term illnesses. Standard exclusions include:
Pre-existing conditions (conditions you had before taking out cover are not claimable).
Long-term or chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma - but cancer care and treatment is included.
Fertility treatment.
Cosmetic surgery.
Pregnancy and childbirth.
Treatment of, or relating to, HIV or AIDS
Alcoholism or substance addiction.
Vitality works well for many people who want solid hospital cover, cancer support, physiotherapy and mental health care. However, it might not suit everyone. For example:
Dental, optical and hearing care aren’t included as standard – you’ll need to add these as optional extras if you want cover.
Some therapies beyond physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic or acupuncture may not be included unless you choose the relevant extras.
Pre-existing conditions aren’t covered, so any care relating to these conditions won’t be included, although this is common among health insurance policies.
Vitality gives a strong base of private care and the option to add extras, but it’s worth comparing with other providers if things like dental or optical care are a priority for you.
Vitality is a great fit if you want solid hospital cover, cancer care, physiotherapy and mental health support included as standard, plus quick online access to a GP. You can also add optional extras to extend your cover and include your partner or children, making it easier to protect the whole family.
One thing we especially like about this is the level of menopause support they offer, with app-based guidance and one-to-one consultations. So if you’re going through this life stage, you’ve got extra help at your fingertips.
Another bonus is Vitality’s active rewards system, where staying active and attending check-ups can earn points that lead to perks like vouchers or even lower premiums.
As with any health insurance, if you have long-term conditions or pre-existing health issues, take a close look at what’s covered and what isn’t before deciding.

Vitality is a UK health insurer that combines private medical insurance with tools designed to help members improve their health and wellbeing. Its approach focuses not only on providing cover for treatment when you need it, but also encourages healthier lifestyle habits through rewards and support services.
More than 25 years ago, the company introduced the Vitality Programme, which is now the world’s largest incentive-based health promotion programme linked to insurance. The programme encourages members to build healthier habits – such as staying active, eating well and looking after their mental wellbeing – by offering rewards and incentives for positive lifestyle choices.
Their research shows that Vitality’s approach makes a real difference: members who take part in the programme live up to five years longer and, on average, highly active members have 27% lower healthcare costs. Beyond the health benefits, members can also enjoy tangible rewards – in 2024, Vitality gave over £99 million in rewards and lower premiums to members through the programme.
